Abstract:
The text analyses preferential voting in parliamentary elections in the Czech Republic. The study tries to focus on the “strength” of the preferential voting in the Czech Chamber of Deputies elections. There are presented outcomes of different rules within open-list system in 1996, 1998, 2002 and 2006 elections.

Electoral systems and electoral coalitions: The case of the Post-Communist Countries

Abstract:
The paper is focused on the electoral coalitions and different rules which might influence the presence of the electoral coalitions in the elections. Firstly, the influence of electoral thresholds is discussed if the presence of the threshold and threat of elimination of competing parties leads to higher share of the representatives who were nominated on the electoral coalition ballots. Secondly, different measures which disadvantage electoral coalitions are examined. Thirdly, the overrepresentation of the strongest party as a motivation for creation of the electoral coalitions is measured. Finally, the influence of the presence of the nominal tier is analysed.

Territorialization of the electoral support in expert models of electoral prediction in Canada and the United Kingdom

Abstract:
The paper comments upon the recent changes in the election forecasting models in Canada and the United Kingdom. Firstly, several common features of expert forecasting models are discussed and the Cube rule introduced. Secondly, the article points at the national modifications of forecasting models in the UK and Canada respectively and shows their implications for the general trend in electoral forecasting. In conclusion, three observations on a possible development in the field are made.

Abstract:
The aim of this paper is analysis of the political crisis in 2007 in Romania which led to recalling of president Traian Băsescu by the parliament. Consequential referendum in which the public express in advantage of president was the outcome of the opposition’s effort to take the power over. The paper deals with the reasons for the crisis, the constitutional rules for the referendum and its exact results as well as further development in Romanian politics after the referendum.

Abstract:
This article deals with the election to the European Parliament in Bulgaria held on the 20th May 2007, which has brought another step in transformation of the Bulgarian party system, which was started in consequence of the parliamentary elections in 2001. The article describes electoral system and analyses election results, considering territorial support of the main political parties. The results of the elections to the European Parliament are compared with the results of the parliamentary elections in 2005.
